Talking with your child about sex can be scary! Sex + Faith helps parents incorporate their faith values with sexual information so they can answer questions, discuss sexuality at each stage of childhood, and show support of sexual differences. Section one explains how faith relates to sexuality and the essential role parents play in forming healthy, faithful, sexually educated children. The second section designates a chapter for four age groupings of children from infancy through high school. Each chapter explains the biological and developmental issues of the age, answers questions children tend to have, provides relevant Biblical and faith stories helpful to discuss with children of that age, and lists five to ten key educational issues for parents to keep in mind. Shaded text boxes are interspersed throughout the book with real life, practical questions that parents and children ask. Expertly written by Kate Ott, Sex + Faith is an easy to use reference guide for parents of kids of all ages.

This book is about the three common words we normally say, their meaning and their impacts in our daily lives. Many Christians use the word faith often but only few truly have it. This book will teach you more about faith, the application, importance and how we can apply it in our daily lives. As human beings we need faith to help us stay strong in stormy times. Another important topic discussed in this book is "love". In our world today, love is the most common word used. We use it mostly on daily basis; we understand and define it in so many ways but only few know the true meaning of it. I have seen many occasions where a guy will meet a girl for the first time and start prophesying how much love he has for the girl. Some people believe in love at first sight, I'm not against it, I know something will get you attracted from somebody before you can make a move, but that atraction doesn't mean you love the person, is only being close with someone that you will get to develop real love. Real love develops is not based on physical attraction. Another important word discussed is sex. Nobody in this life can tell me he/she has never heard of sex. Sex is everywhere. This book will teach you some things you have to know about sex; it is not something you haven't heard of, but teachings in biblical way.

Sex and relationships education in a multi-faith society often causes workers to ask, 'What should I teach?', 'Whose values?', 'How do I meet children and young people's needs without offending parents and communities?' This book outlines approaches and strategies for developing effective SRE policy and practice to help workers engage with and understand the issues, including: examples of consultation with parents, carers and the wider community; six religious and a humanist perspective on nine key topics including puberty, contraception, gender roles and homosexuality with suggested learning outcomes; an audit tool and suggested activities for developing a values framework for SRE. Faith, Values, and Sex & Relationships Education is the result of extensive consultation with religious communities, professionals working in, and supporting, schools and young people. It is aimed at teachers and all those who support teachers. The resource will also be useful for educators in other settings, including the youth service and pupil referral units.

Through his provocative and influential work, most notably The Culture of Desire and A Queer Geography, Frank Browning has proven himself to be an erudite and intellectual writer with deep insights into the fusion of culture and identity. In his new book The Monk and the Skeptic, Browning examines the intersection of sexuality and religion through the framework of conversations between the author and a gay priest to discuss the nature of secular and spiritual friendship; religious thought on same-sex marriage; the relation of the body to God; the mission of charity enacted by the drag troop Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence; the biblical prohibitions on improper pleasures of the body; and the history of how the church has viewed the body and desire. Browning manages to bring in a host of influences to his discussion: Descartes, Locke, Greek Myth, Christian Myth, Buddhist myth, Harry Potter, St. Thomas Aquinas, as well as modern writers like Jeanette Winterson, John Boswell, and Daniel Mendelsohn. The result is an engaging, timely, and very modern discourse on how the self and sexuality has been interpreted throughout the ages.

This is a book you need to approach without preconceived notions about God and the Holy Bible. This is not a book about religious propaganda. This is not a love story. Faith Moon is not the average Asian American girl. As a child of the 1950s coming of age in the 1980s, Faith has to find her own path. For someone like Faith, growing up in post-modern America had its challenges; she didn’t exactly meet the narrowly defined expectations of her family and her culture. Faith’s journey from the innocent days of childhood to the eye-opening choices she finds at college is one even she couldn’t have predicted. When she moves into her first little apartment as a student at Illinois State University, the world is a grand mystery to be explored and devoured. Her new friends offer her a lifestyle she could never have envisioned her herself. Her new world is now filled with experiences sublime, beautiful, and horrifying. She soon finds herself drawn into the seductive world of magic and the underworld. Her new friends have unusual dietary needs, to say the least—and their unusual appetites extend to every possible definition of the flesh. Here, Faith must look deep within herself to find the truth in her own definitions of good and evil and her own morality. She finds herself debating the nature of faith itself and how religion can—or should—shape a life. For a young girl finding her own path in a turbulent and secret world, life becomes all about sex, fire, and magic.

During his 2009 inaugural speech, President Obama described the United States as a nation of "Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus--and nonbelievers." It was the first time an American president had acknowledged the existence of this rapidly growing segment of the population in such a public forum. And yet the reasons why more and more people are turning away from religion are still poorly understood. In Faith No More, Phil Zuckerman draws on in-depth interviews with people who have left religion to find out what's really behind the process of losing one's faith. According to a 2008 study, so many Americans claim no religion (15%, up from 8% in 1990) that this category now outranks every other religious group except Catholics and Baptists. Exploring the deeper stories within such survey data, Zuckerman shows that leaving one's faith is a highly personal, complex, and drawn-out process. And he finds that, rather than the clich? of the angry, nihilistic atheist, apostates are life-affirming, courageous, highly intelligent and inquisitive, and deeply moral. Zuckerman predicts that this trend toward nonbelief will likely continue and argues that the sooner we recognize that religion is frequently and freely rejected by all sorts of men and women, the sooner our understanding of the human condition will improve. The first book of its kind, Faith No More will appeal to anyone interested in the "New Atheism" and indeed to anyone wishing to more fully understand our changing relationship to religious faith.

The cover shows a picture of my daughter and her husband’s wedding rings and bouquet. This is only a relevant choice since in my first book, I gave advice to young people about marriage and courtship. My daughter Jessica met her husband, David, over three years ago, but it is such a fairy-tale story that I had to share a little of it with the reader. So many times, young people feel trapped by peer pressure to engage in promiscuous activities before engagement and marriage. I read that the unwed mothers’ rate has doubled, according to statistics. Google states that statistics from the Mississippi Department of Health states that the overall rate of births to unwed mothers was 54.7 percent in 2010. It was 28 percent in 1980. Dig a little deeper into this report, and the numbers become downright scary. Thirteen counties reported unwed birth rates of over 75 percent. Looking at these statistics, there seems to be a decline in God’s moral principle of chastity. For a young couple to start a marriage as both couple being virgins seems to be pretty rare. That is one reason I wanted to share this about David and Jessica—to encourage others to not be promiscuous during their courtship. As I stated earlier, David and Jessica have known each other over three years. They met in the church. Our church has an orchestra. They both played instruments in the orchestra. They were very young when they met. Neither one had an idea that one day God would put them both together as husband and wife. They both desired an educational mastery to be successful in life. Like Solomon, I guess you can say they sought wisdom and knowledge. They waited until they required mastery in knowledge before they decided to settle down and get married. Our youth today seems not to be asking for proficiency in wisdom and knowledge, but the youth, according to statistics I read earlier, are becoming adults before they have matured in the mastery of wisdom and knowledge. I am so glad that Jessica and David waited and was not promiscuous during their courtship, but followed God’s standard for a holy and righteous life. Sure, young people may make mistakes, but it is our job as Christian adults to not abuse them but to train them to respect God’s way and principles. I believe that even if we train our children in righteousness and they later depart, it will remain with them in life (Prov. 22: 6), and it will cause them to return to God in honest and true confessions to God from the heart. God is looking on the heart of people. He doesn’t care about our outward adorning, but he does care about our heart. For God knows whether or not we’re just and honest or living in hypocrisy and sin. I just believe if we acknowledge God in all our ways even when we’re young we can avoid many pitfalls in life. Young people live pure and righteous lives before God and like David and Jessica, and my husband and I, you can experience wedded bliss and happiness. “For he who findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord” (Prov. 18:22).

Sex and the Citizen is a multidisciplinary collection of essays that draws on current anxieties about "legitimate" sexual identities and practices across the Caribbean to explore both the impact of globalization and the legacy of the region’s history of sexual exploitation during colonialism, slavery, and indentureship. Speaking from within but also challenging the assumptions of feminism, literary and cultural studies, and queer studies, this volume questions prevailing oppositions between the backward, homophobic nation-state and the laid-back, service-with-a-smile paradise or between giving in ignominiously to the autocratic demands of the global north and equating postcolonial sovereignty with a "wholesome" heterosexual citizenry. The contributors use parliamentary legislation, novels, film, and other texts to examine Martinique’s relationship to France; the diasporic relationships between the Dominican Republic and New York City, between India and Trinidad, and between Mexico’s capital city and its Caribbean coast; "indigenous" names for sexual practices and desires in Suriname and the Eastern Caribbean; and other topics. This volume will appeal to readers interested in how sex has become an important register for considerations of citizenship, personal and political autonomy, and identity in the Caribbean and the global south.
