My unstructured upbringing, and cares to the wind attitude, led to my frequent incarceration, from childhood to adulthood, it’s a disturbing story, which is primarily aimed at the adult reading audience, who enjoy reading about reality situations and crime. I have always been a reader, and to a large extent, that helped me become a self taught person. Born on the banks of the Colorado River in Arizona, and raised up in the Marcos De Niza barrio projects in South Phoenix, I experienced the injustices of the cotton fields, Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Home, and Arizona State Industrial School at Fort Grant, Arizona. I wandered the desperate streets of Los Angeles, and the forlorn railroad tracks, alone, like a lost person without a purpose in life. I was locked up in the jails of Phoenix, and Los Angeles, before winding up in the California State penitentiary system. Upon my release, I struggled to stay out of the pen, and took the jobs that society at large would never want to take. Through numerous personal tragedies, incarcerations, and unfortunate circumstances, I lost control of my life. No one was ever able to change my destructive behavior. The changes when they occurred came from within me, when I could no longer cope, with the situations I had cast my self into. Looking back, I can now see what I couldn’t see, during those hopeless time periods. I was very fortunate, to finally be able to leave that life behind me, through relationships that believed in me, and successfully worked, and built myself a civil service work career, from which I retired. I now spend my days enjoying life’s simple pleasures, after all my previous tragic missteps. My objective in life now, is to become an accomplished writer.

This book is a work of realistic fiction, based on the factual life conditions of countless individuals to provide reading enlightenment. It is my hope and prayer that after reading this book society will commit to rethinking its look at ex-offenders and what positive impact they can bring to society--- if they are given a fair chance. Danielle grew up confused and feeling abandoned. She moved from place to place; first with her mother, then a group home, then her grandmother, then her father. She grew up feeling that she was unwanted by everyone. Her father and step mother struggled with addiction; her biological mother may have struggled with the same types of issues. She had to live with the guilt of fatal choices she made in her young life which carried through to her adulthood. Danielle struggled with addiction and criminal activity throughout her own life. She spent a large portion of her life in battling the judicial system. She endured physical abuse as a child and as an adult. Death seemed to frequent her life and all those she thought loved and care about her seem to pass away. Her life events seem to finally open her eyes to making a change in her life. When Danielle lost her father she wanted to get high for the first time since her release from prison. She didn't know what to do with her emotions. She sat in the cold hospital emergency room and thought about her life and what using drugs again would mean for her. She had come so far and she didn't want to lose everything she had worked so hard for. Since her release from prison she had gained her family's trust and learned to trust herself. Rather than jump up and give in to her moment of weakness..... she waited.... Danielle discovered that taking away the drugs was only half of her battle. She realized that living life without drugs and criminal activity was the small step to changing her thoughts feelings and actions. She just had to figure out how to make those changes successfully.

Growing up in the late sixties and early seventies was fast and furious. The United States was in the heat of the Vietnam War. The theme of the time was sex, drugs, and rock-'n'-roll. I flung myself into the culture and adopted the lifestyle as my own. I was a full-fledged drunk and an addict by the time I graduated from high school. Prison, a failed marriage, and a lost desire to be a father to my two sons were proof that my life was crashing around me. Then I surrendered to Christ. It happened in the back seat of a squad car, as I was headed to prison for the third time. The change was immediate and profound, something only God could orchestrate. I'm a new man. Today, I'm pushing, pulling, and doing everything I can to help others out of the same boat I was in. From my story, you will learn that God calls even the worst of sinners. You see, God is in the business of restoring lives, and my dramatic conversion is a powerful testimony of just how much God loves people like you and me.

This book is a speck of fire from man’s inherent quest to be at a perfect self-contented oneness with nature. Today’s rat race towards technological development might have thrusted man to lack awareness of that quest. Infact, the human journey and conditioning itself has an inherent character of making him lack awareness of his pristine aspects. This book is a humble effort in reminding man of his own quest, in facilitating him to get in touch with the truth long-suppressed and forgotten. The growing imbalance in the society is finding its expression not merely as the materialistic gap between haves and have-nots, but also in the form of Kundalini/Consciousness Awakening in more and more people. The spiritual deficit of the human collective is manifesting as spiritual burden on some. We know the many scientific laws of conservation, don’t we? Among other things, the book propounds a possibility that our incapacity to comprehend God might be the limitiation of human evolution, as of now! As much as the book talks about God, Spirituality and Mysticism, the book is more an effort in questioning the sufficiency of science for current needs of human evolution. Time has come for man to expand his horizons not through Technology but by regaining his roots of spiritual strength and in the process expand the horizons of science. No development can be linear and no one instrument can prove self-sufficient for human evolution. In that sense, Science has reached its threshold. Yet, Science with Heart is waiting to be discovered and explored through the reinstatement of Trinity and Balance in the world. This book might not contain any new spiritual talk or wisdom for the spiritually inclined. But it might make a very interesting read for those who are not spiritually inclined...yet. And when we realize that the term “spiritually inclined” is a misnomer, for we are the spirit, the purpose behind this book would have been fulfilled.

The patient is an ascetically pretty 15½-year-old white female. She is intelligent, fearful, extremely anxious, and depressed. Her rage is poorly controlled and inappropriately expressed. Diagnostic Impression: Program for social recovery in a supportive and structured environment appears favorable. Life Inside In 1967, three months before her sixteenth birthday, Mindy Lewis was sent to a state psychiatric hospital by court order. She had been skipping school, smoking pot, and listening to too much Dylan. Her mother, at a loss for what else to do, decided that Mindy remain in state custody until she turned eighteen and became a legal, law-abiding, "healthy" adult. Life Inside is Mindy's story about her coming-of-age during those tumultuous years. In honest, unflinching prose, she paints a richly textured portrait of her stay on a psychiatric ward -- the close bonds and rivalries among adolescent patients, the politics and routines of institutional life, the extensive use of medication, and the prevalence of life-altering misdiagnoses. But this memoir also takes readers on a journey of recovery as Lewis describes her emergence into adulthood and her struggle to transcend the stigma of institutionalization. Bracingly told, and often terrifying in its truths, Life Inside is a life-affirming memoir that informs as it inspires.
